With more than 30 years of expertise in the field of cryogenic size reduction, and our own test and research laboratory in the USA, Air Products understands the challenges facing industry in grinding and recycling. For over 30 years, Air Products has designed and manufactured equipment for cryogenic applications using liquid nitrogen. This has given us a very broad knowledge base for cryogenic process, including equipment selection, operations, controls, productivity programs, maintenance, and piping. This knowledge can be available to you through our portfolio of consulting and lab services.

Complete Cryogenic Grinding Service

Trial grinding services from the world experts in cryogenic grinding.
With more than 30 years of expertise in the field of cryogenic size reduction, and our own test and research laboratory in the USA, Air Products understands the challenges facing industry in grinding and recycling.

This led to the development of our Cryo-Grind® range of economical grinding processes, where nitrogen ratios and particle size achieved are better than ever.

Air Products is able to provide customers with a full cryogenic trial grinding service, at our own grinding facility in Allentown in the USA or at the renowned Fraunhofer UMSICHT (the Fraunhofer Institute for Environment, Safety and Energy Technology) in Oberhausen, Germany.

Benefits

The benefits to Air Products customers are:

  • Independent evaluation of different grinding processes
  • A wide range of grinding methods available using different milling techniques
  • Characterization of particle size distribution, shape, surface area and element analysis
  • Chemical analysis to determine any changes before and after cryogenic grinding
  • Material profiles for powder/spray coatings to ensure correct surface finish
  • Complete process optimisation
  • Fully evaluated cost summaries

Whether dealing with rubber, plastics, pigments, chemicals or spices, the benefits of cryogenic size reduction to your process can be fully evaluated through this service.

Cryo-Trim® Lab services

Current and potential users of cryogenic deflashing technology should thoroughly evaluate their processes to assess finished product quality, determine equipment requirements and identify operational efficiencies. Data obtained from testing contributes to intelligent business decisions about equipment purchases and process control.

Air Products’ Cryo-Trim lab in Allentown, Pennsylvania is a world-class facility, staffed by a team of experienced cryogenic professionals. Customers have access to the latest in testing equipment and services that can help them improve throughput, enhance deflashing quality and reduce capital and operating expenditures.

In addition, tests can also be conducted at Cryogenic Systems and Parts laboratory in Costa Mesa, California.

Evaluate and refine processes, economics, quality
A complete evaluation of cryogenic deflashing requires a multipronged approach that assesses a range of variables to optimize your system. Our team works with you to first identify the type of equipment best suited to your operation. Then a host of process parameters are tested to help you optimize your productivity, including:

  • Deflashing quality
  • Liquid nitrogen consumption
  • Process cycle times
  • Temperature profiles
  • Shot blast media size (in shot blast units)

Finally, the economic impact of liquid nitrogen use is assessed and throughput analyses are conducted to help identify opportunities to speed production or reduce costs.
